Pottery Classes

Join us for directed instructional time in the Clay Ground. for fun projects designed for a child age 2-5 while assisted by an adult.

Tuesday & Thursday, 10:30 – Noon

Projects change weekly within a monthly theme. All materials are included and projects will be ready to pick up one week after the class.

*Pay as you go for a drop in rate of $25 per morning. Siblings or additional children are $10 each.

Enjoy learning the history, chemistry, and clay’s impact on global industry while sculpting and wheel throwing clay each week. No previous experience is necessary.

During the three weeks, students will develop the basic hand building skills and learn about the properties of clay. During the last three weeks of this session, pottery on the wheel will be introduced and skills for "throwing" a successful pot will be honed.

Throughout the 8-week session, step-by-step instruction of based in art history will supplement the overall concept and understanding of the fundamentals of ceramics as an art form.

Explore many techniques through both hand built projects as well as wheel turned.

The first month of the session will focus on traditional hand-building techniques such as coil, pinch, slab, and joining multiple elements. (Grades 9-12 will also be given the opportunity to create their own interpretations of handbuilt objects.) Each week a new project will be created from beginning to end with step-by-step instruction.

During the second month of the session, the potter’s wheel will be introduced. Skills for "throwing" a successful pot will be honed and each student will have their own wheel to work on. Throughout the course, decorating and glazing projects will be ongoing.

Fun weekly projects will cover both the basic clay building techniques as well as creative interpretations of those techniques. Step-by-step instruction will include ongoing decorating and glazing. Students will gain confidence as young artists through a variety of amazing creations.

Explore the basic design and construction of resin jewelry and incorporate basic jewelry making techniques into your resin projects.  Weekly projects and techniques will culminate in a self-directed final masterpiece!
